Hi David,
[Reply sent to po4a-devel instead of po4a-commits. Original thread at
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/po4a-commits/2010-October/002896...

I do not know how you want to proceed to merge your branch into trunk,
you can merge it now if you want, or when it is finished, it is up to
you.
You will have to be careful to not unfuzzy SVN r2296, I suggest you to
undo this change in your branch and apply it instead on the trunk
(either before or after the merge, as you want).
Thanks for your work.

Bug#601025: man-db: lexgrog/apropos issues with some manual pages
by David Prévot
Package: man-db
Version: 2.5.7-6
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream
Hi,
I noticed that some localized manual page descriptions are not showed
correctly with lexgrog or apropos. These examples are pages from the
po4a package:
$ apropos -L es po4apod-display-po
po4apod-display-po (1) - (unknown subject)
$ apropos -L fr po4apod-display-po
po4apod-display-po (1) - Afficher un document POD traduit (`a partir dun PO.
There are two issues in the French pages: “(`a” should be “à“ and “dun“
should be “d'un”.
Note that this page is built from a DocBook XML source file.
I also notice another one:
$ apropos -L fr Locale::Po4a::Ini
Locale::Po4a::Ini (3) - convertit des fichiers INI depuis ou vers des fichiersPO
“fichiersPO” should be “fichiers PO”.
Note that the manual pages are displayed correctly, maybe a preprocessor
is lacking when apropos or lexgrog is called for these pages.
$ zcat /usr/share/man/fr/man1/po4aman-display-po.1.gz | grep NOM -A1
.SH "NOM"
po4aman-display-po \- Afficher une page de manuel traduite \(`a partir d\*(Aqun PO\&.
$ zcat /usr/share/man/es/man1/po4aman-display-po.1.gz | grep NOM -A1
.SH "NOMBRE DE REFERENCIA"
po4aman-display-po \- Muestra una p\('agina de manual traducida de acuerdo a un fichero PO
$ zcat /usr/share/man/fr/man3/Locale\:\:Po4a\:\:Ini.3.gz | grep NOM -A2
.SH "NOM"
.IX Header "NOM"
Locale::Po4a::Ini \- convertit des fichiers \s-1INI\s0 depuis ou vers des fichiers

CDATA end sequence added to msgid
by Renato Botelho
Hello guys,
First, i would like to congrats developers for this fantastic
tool.
I've started using po4a few weeks ago, and yesterday i had
this problem. After generate a .po file with po4a-gettextize
I realized it added the CDATA end sequence ']]' to msgid.
Is it an expected behaviour?
If yes, i think it's dangerous, because if translator remove
this from translated string, the new xml created with
po4a-translate will be broken.
I filled a bug on po4a Tracker [1].
I would be glad to help testing a possible solution for this,
and since i'm maintainer of po4a on FreeBSD ports, i can
add patches to fix this problem there too.
Regards

Initial Comment:
When I have a xml file containing a CDATA block like this
<![CDATA[
Example
]]>
and generate a .po using po4a-gettextize it adds msgid like this:
msgid ""
"Example"
"]]"
It's a bit wrong because if translator forget to add ]] to translated message you broke translated xml file.

Hello,
You are right, but since nobody spotted it before, I am afraid that it has not been well tested and you may find other bugs. A patch is attached.

Some details on the website
by David Prévot
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi,
I just spotted a few minor issues in a page [0] of the website:
0: http://po4a.alioth.debian.org/man/
In French, po4aman-display-po(1) and po4apod-display-po(1)'s
descriptions contain ?(`a? instead of ?à?; Locale::Po4a::Ini(3pm)'s
description contains ?fichiersPO? instead of ?fichiers PO?.
In Spanish, three ?parse failed? are showed.
Cheers
David

My patch earlier tonight
by Jonas Smedegaard
Hi,
Some time ago I patched the Text module to support Markdown. Someone
back then granted me write access to the project and encouraged me to
participate directly rather than just send patches.
Some hours ago I applied my first little change. Hope it is ok how I
did it.
I have now also subscribed to this mailinglist.
Kind regards,
- Jonas

Following man-pages conventions (Was: r2287 - /branches/manpage/)
by David Prévot

Hi,

man(1) advises the use of the “[t]he following conventions [that] apply
to the *SYNOPSIS* section and can be used as a guide in other sections.
*bold text* type exactly as shown.
_italic text_ replace with appropriate argument.”, etc.
Using these conventions makes the manual pages really easier to read and
search for information, and po4a is a good place to follow these good
practices as an example in manual pages documentation.
I volunteer to such job, that's why I initiate the branches/manpage
branch, not to brake current translations and so on. I've updated
tonight some changes to section 1, please let me now if it's OK or not
to continue. Once this will be done, there will be again some work to
manually unfuzzy translations, since most of this change may be unfuzzy
before asking for update.
Of course, if others want to join the effort, any help will be
welcome (review changes, look for forgotten stuff, unfuzzy translation,
etc.)
Cheers
David

Can po4a be used to translate SRT video subtitle files?
by Petter Reinholdtsen
Hi. I've recently become involved with video subtitling, and it
occured to me that it would be useful if .po files could be used for
this work.
The format is described in <URL:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SubRip>
and some examples can be found on <URL:http://cleanternet.org/>.
My idea is to use the English subtitle file as the original, and
translate it using .po files to get a translated subtitle file.
I looked at po4a, but did not find any SRT support in it. Is there
such support?
Please Cc me, as I am not subscribed to this list.
Happy hacking,
