po4a html testsuite vs release workflow ?
by Simon Paillard
Hi,
I try to run the test suite (through 'make dist' actually) from the
current SVN in a clean sid chroot, but it fails for html :
[..]
t/22-html.t ........... Unknown format type: html.
List of valid formats:
[..]
Because html is disabled from ./lib/Locale/Po4a/Chooser.pm:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
r120 | mquinson | 2003-11-07 13:57:56 +0100 (ven 07 nov 2003) | 2 lines
Html.pm is not ready for being released
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which step do I miss in the release workflow ? Or the html testsuite should be
disabled ?
BTW, I think that would be a good idea to run the test suite at the
buildtime of the Debian (even if that is perfomered at 'upstream'
release already).
The following tests need extra packages beside Build-Deps:
t/20-sgml.t ........... ok < need docbook-xml (for the DTD)
t/24-tex.t ............ ok < need texlive-binaries (for kpsewhich)
Thanks !

by Denis Barbier
Hello,
We would like to make a new release very soon, but a new string has
been added into documentation.
Can translators please update their PO file?
po/pod (pot: 288K)
es: po/pod/es.po: 1474 translated messages, 1 untranslated message.
fr: po/pod/fr.po: 1474 translated messages, 1 untranslated message.
ja: po/pod/ja.po: 1474 translated messages, 1 untranslated message.
pl: po/pod/pl.po: 1474 translated messages, 1 untranslated message.
Thanks,

Introduction, and a polite request for help
by daniel cabrera
Greetings po4a people.
My name is Daniel Cabrera, and I'm one of the members of the Fedora
Spanish translation team. We've decided to start updating our man pages,
and for that, we've found that po4a is the perfect tool. Since we are
very few in our team, and since we're more accustomed to use graphical
programs, I'm having a couple of troubles that maybe you could help me
solve.
Our working plan is to first convert all of our outdated database (v.
1.55) into .po files, and then update them to 3.25... if that's the last
version. So, my first problem is that when I try to convert a man page
into a .po file, the translated strings are placed as msgid strings. I'm
using as a source file a man page already in Spanish (accept.2, for this
example), and the command I'm running is:
$ po4a-gettextize -f man -m accept.2 -M UTF-8 -p accept.2-es-ES.po
My second problem is to be able to convert more than a file at once, but
that can wait :-)
Thanks a lot for your time
Regards, Daniel.

po4a-translate is skipping all translations
by Tony Houghton
Hi,
I'm trying to use po4a to manage Spanish translations of roxterm's man
pages (generated from Docbook/XML), but I can't get it to work properly
because po4a-translate translates 0% of the strings.
Originally the translator produced an XML file before we knew about
po4a, so I used po4a-gettextize to produce a .po file, which appeared to
work perfectly. But I can't get po4a-translate to produce a translated
XML file from it.
I tried -v which didn't print any extra info at all, and then -d which
printed this:
~/roxterm/po4a $ po4a-translate -d -v -f docbook -m ../roxterm.1.xml.in -p roxterm.1.es.po -l roxterm.1.es.xml.in
readpo(roxterm.1.es.po)... done.
read(../roxterm.1.xml.in)...done.
parse...../roxterm.1.xml.in:47: (po4a::xml)
Content of tag <refentry> excluded: <placeholder
type="refentryinfo" id="0"/>
../roxterm.1.xml.in:62: (po4a::xml)
Content of tag <refentry><refmeta> excluded: &dhucpackage;
&dhsection;
../roxterm.1.xml.in:64: (po4a::xml)
Content of attribute <refentry><refmeta><refmiscinfo>class
excluded: source
../roxterm.1.xml.in:65: (po4a::xml)
Content of attribute <refentry><refmeta><refmiscinfo>class
excluded: version
../roxterm.1.xml.in:66: (po4a::xml)
Content of attribute <refentry><refmeta><refmiscinfo>class
excluded: manual
../roxterm.1.xml.in:74: (po4a::xml)
Content of tag <refentry><refsynopsisdiv> excluded: <placeholder
type="cmdsynopsis" id="0"/>
../roxterm.1.xml.in:125: (po4a::xml)
Content of tag <refentry><refsect1> excluded: <placeholder
type="variablelist" id="0"/>
done.
Discard the translation of ../roxterm.1.xml.in (only 0% translated; need 80%).
Surely that shouldn't be enough to make it give up entirely?
I haven't subscribed to the list so please Cc all replies to me or let
me know if I should subscribe. And I expect it would help if you see the
XML and .po files, but I wasn't sure whether it's OK to post attachments
here, so please let me know.

Fwd: Need help to have more 100% translated po/bin/*.po files
by Omar Campagne

vi -> Basically, it's Cyltie, she seems really active, but of course,
on too many fronts. She seems to be quite alone.
ca -> Jordi Vilalta doesn't seem interested on l10n anymore, but Debian's
ca team shows some nice stats.
A problem here is launchpad. When I contacted translators during the
last call, some of them pointed out that the translation was up to date, as
that's what launchpad showed. At least one of those lp translators was happy
to stop using that interface, and getting the PO file directly.
Also, in lp a lot of people may work on a translation, but only the last
will be contacted (and maybe he has no interest in l10n by now).
Sadly, po4a's launchpad is stopped at 0.29. OTOH, there is
https://code.launchpad.net/~kiko/po4a/trunk-new, which is up to date.
He seems to be an active ubuntu/lp member, yet I don't know if he's
part of ubuntu-devel, the maintainers for Ubuntu's po4a. Perhaps I can mail
him and get to know if he would be up for the task of maintaining translations
in launchpad.
However, I'm willing to take over Jordi's Vilalta lp repo, I would just need him
to hand it over to me, and some time to learn the internals.
Perhaps getting po4a translation in lp to be managed by Launchpad translators
team with structured permissions will be a good idea, as that would take care
of quality, and would get po4a into translation teams instead of individual
translators (as that is what happens with open permissions).
Another way of getting some visibility would be to put the project at
pootle.locamotion.org. It gives the ability to deactivate specific languages,
which would be great at least for fr, ru, de and the rest of languages which
are actively maintained through vcs access.
Last option would be to get people involved through debian-i18n maillist, as
you are interested in keeping this project "un-debianized" so other projects
feel more comfortable to use it.
If any of you is using any other distro, does it have a strong translation
team? Besides Debian, I use Arch, which doesn't really have l10n
means. Perhaps we could try getting in touch with other distro's teams.
However, this needs some organization, if po4a starts having many l10n
sources, in order to avoid duplication of work.

Omar Campagne

Need help to have more 100% translated po/bin/*.po files

Hello,
It seems that several translators did not notice the last rounds of
translations. Below is a list of language codes, the date of the last
change by translator in po/bin/*.po (taken from PO-Revision-Date which
may be wrong), and translation statistics.

Some languages could easily be 100% up-to-date, but it seems that
current translator is unresponsive.
Is someone interested in trying to join those translators and their
translation teams, if they exist, in order to find new translators?

My hosting service uses port 26 instead of 25 or submission for some
reason, is that what you mean?

OK. Please see <http://www.realh.co.uk/po4a/>.
