I quickly read previous messages but did not realize that this change
was needed. Adding "\\ " is much less natural than a non breaking space
(at least for those who are used to write this glyph), so can you please
explain why this conversion was troublesome?
Using non breaking spaces by default is troublesome because all encodings
don't support this glyph, and thus the generated PO may be invalid in some
cases.
What was proposed is an option (-o with-non_breaking_spaces=1) to enable
the transliteration of "\ " to 0xA0 (I recommend French translators to use
it).
Anyway, translators can still use 0xA0 during the translation. What should
be avoided is generating msgid strings with a 0xA0.
This only impact the Man module (but the Man module is used to test the
Transtractor).
The test suite only test the default behavior (at least currently).
Other information can be found in the "Non breaking spaces in man pages"
thread.

I hope this is OK. Please bug me if there is a flaw.
