upcoming release on August 30 => string freeze for translations
by Martin Quinson
Hello,
The current git contains quite a few good changes that deserve a release, so
please update your translation before next week, on August 30. Beware that
several pages of the documentation were rewritten since v0.67, so refreshing
your translation of the documentation may take some time.
As usual, please report any issue you may find during your translations.
For info, the changelog of upcoming v0.68 release is here:
https://github.com/mquinson/po4a/blob/master/NEWS

Suggestions for improvement of po4a documentatioon
by Helge Kreutzmann
Hello po4a developers,
while updating the po4a translation I noticed the following potential
improvements:
po4a:122
========
Current:
"The provided directory must contain a set of PO files, each named F<XX.po> "
"with C<XX> the ISO 639-1 of the language used in this file. The directory "
Suggested improvement:
"The provided directory must contain a set of PO files, each named F<XX.po> "
"with C<XX> the ISO 639-1 code of the language used in this file (two or more letters). The directory "
Rationale:
e.g. pt_BR, or sr_Cyrl, or zh_CHS, or zh_Hant
doc/po4a.7.pod:79
=================
Current:
"Then, the I<manual editing> reported depicts the action of the translators, "
"that modify the PO files to provide translations to every original string "
"and paragraph. "
Suggested improvement:
"Then, the I<manual editing> block depicts the action of the translators, "
"that modify the PO files to provide translations to every original string "
"and paragraph. "
Rationale:
The paragraph is referring to the graphics which contains various
blocks with actions. Also in "manual editing" nothing is reported.
doc/po4a.7.pod:109
==================
Current:
"You can also set the insertion I<mode> to the value C<before>, with a "
"similar semantic: combining C<mode=before> with an C<endboundary> will put "
"the addendum just B<after> the matched boundary, that the last potential "
"boundary line before the C<position>. Combining C<mode=before> with an "
"C<beginboundary> will put the addendum just B<before> the matched boundary, "
"that the last potential boundary line before the C<position>."
Suggested improvement:
"You can also set the insertion I<mode> to the value C<before>, with a "
"similar semantic: combining C<mode=before> with an C<endboundary> will put "
"the addendum just B<after> the matched boundary, that is the last potential "
~~
"boundary line before the C<position>. Combining C<mode=before> with an "
"C<beginboundary> will put the addendum just B<before> the matched boundary, "
"that is the last potential boundary line before the C<position>."
~~
Rationale:
Missing verb in the clause after the comma started with "that".
Alternatively (if the meaning remains the same?) In both cases the
word "that" could be deleted.
Greetings
Helge

stupid question about source language
by Marco Ciampa
Sorry for being so ignorant.
Is po4a English centric? I mean, what if somebody translate a manual
starting from a language different from English (say French, like many
Framasoft projects)? Does it still work? If so, this passage in the po4a
manual might be misleading:
man po4a:
"Depending on your settings, po4a will discard the partially translated
documents, or produce a document mixing English (for the new or modified
paragraphs) and the target language (for paragraphs where translation is
already in the PO file)."
if it could be some other than English language, instead of English
should be used "source language" or something similar?
